About Me · Katie Knapp, Ph.D.
A classroom's potential goes beyond its walls.
I help teachers envision classroom spaces that support student engagement, comfort, and learning — with child development at the heart of every decision.
The educator behind the glow-up
Hi, I'm Katie.
I'm a professor of education at Kent State University, a licensed teacher, and an educational consultant. My work includes teaching child development, mentoring teachers, and helping educators think carefully about the experiences they create for children.
I started Classroom Glow-Up to help teachers make intentional decisions about their learning spaces. From furniture arrangement and flexible seating to bulletin board use and calming corners, I focus on how a classroom works for the children and teachers who use it.
Teachers spend so much of their day in the classroom, and their comfort matters, too. I consider comfortable workspaces, convenient access to materials, and arrangements that make everyday routines easier — so the room supports the teacher as well as the students.
A beautiful room is only part of the picture. My approach draws on research and educational practice to connect classroom design with learning, movement, comfort, and emotional regulation.
Rooted in education.
