Important Info for In-Person Visits

A few things to know before booking an in-person consultation.

School & District Access

In-person consultations take place in your classroom. You are responsible for obtaining any required permission from your building principal or district administration before scheduling a visit. Katie is happy to provide a brief description of the consultation for approval purposes upon request.

Fire Marshal & Safety Guidelines

Safety First

Every school and classroom has its own safety requirements. Before making changes to your classroom, please check with your school or district and your local fire marshal to ensure that furniture, materials, displays, and classroom arrangements meet applicable fire and safety regulations. A beautiful, engaging classroom should always be a safe classroom first.

All classroom design recommendations are made with fire marshal and school safety codes in mind. This includes guidance on:

  • Keeping aisles and exit pathways clear (minimum 36" clearance)
  • Limiting combustible materials on walls — most districts cap this at 50% of wall surface
  • Avoiding items hung from ceilings or light fixtures
  • Ensuring electrical cords and power strips are safely managed
  • Keeping storage areas accessible and unobstructed

Katie will flag any existing concerns during the consultation and suggest compliant alternatives. Final responsibility for meeting your school's specific fire and safety codes rests with the teacher and building administration.
